Origin

Jean Grey first appeared as Marvel Girl in X-Men #1 in September 1963, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Phoenix Force narrative began in 1976 with the X-Men #101 reveal of her cosmic upgrade, and the Dark Phoenix Saga in 1980 (Claremont and Byrne) is one of the most-cited X-Men arcs of all time.

Comic history

The Phoenix mythology is the load-bearing element of nearly every modern X-Men event. Grant Morrison's New X-Men, Matt Fraction's Avengers vs. X-Men, and Jonathan Hickman's Krakoa-era runs all build on the Dark Phoenix arc. The Rivals design uses the white-and-gold Phoenix costume rather than the classic green-and-yellow.

Phoenix in Marvel Rivals

Phoenix is a 275 HP Duelist whose kit is built around the Phoenix Force as a charge mechanic. Cosmic Flames is the basic projectile. Telekinesis Burst is the area damage. Dark Ascent is the mobility tool. The kit rewards a slow charge of the Phoenix Force resource into a committed Endsong Inferno window. New players treat her abilities as independent; experienced players treat the entire kit as a setup for the ult.

Abilities

Cosmic Flames is the basic. Telepathic Illusion is the CC. Telekinesis Burst is the AOE. Dark Ascent is the dash. Mind's Grace is the survivability tool. Endsong Inferno, her ultimate, is a self-centered cosmic explosion that does enormous damage in a wide area.

Spotting Phoenix in Rivaldle

Phoenix's red hair, green eyes, and 275 HP combine to form one of the most narrowing fingerprints in the database. The 1963 origin year places her alongside Iron Man and Doctor Strange and Magneto, but the X-Men affiliation removes them from contention. In Emoji Mode the bird (🦜) is the strongest cue.

Try the puzzle

Phoenix is a possible answer in every Rivaldle mode. The fastest way to spot them is usually a combination of two columns in Classic Mode plus a quick read of the silhouette or pixelation. Once you get a feel for the database fingerprints — the unique species cell, the unique origin year, the unique HP value — most heroes can be solved in two or three guesses.
